The Samhita Adhyayan-3 (SA-3) curriculum is tailored to deepen students’ understanding of Ayurvedic classical texts, specifically using the Charaka Samhita as a model. This course enhances knowledge of textual structures, explanatory methods, and clinical applications of Ayurvedic principles. A key component of SA-3 is the introduction of tools such as Tantrayukti and Vyakhya, which are essential for interpreting and understanding the structured presentation of Ayurvedic knowledge.
The curriculum merges traditional learning methods like Patha (recitation), Avabodha (comprehension), and Anushthana (application and evaluation) with contemporary approaches to clinical skill development. It covers 54 chapters from the Uttarardha portion of Charaka Samhita, focusing on areas like Chikitsasthana, Kalpasthana, and Siddhisthana, which are crucial for mastering Ayurvedic treatment principles, detoxification therapies, and procedural techniques.
Each chapter is structured to include Adhyaya Parichaya (introduction), Siddhanta-Vivarana (explanation of key principles), and Adhyaya Samgraha (summary), facilitating a systematic and comprehensive understanding of the texts. To promote active learning, SA-3 incorporates practical, research-oriented activities such as applying Tantrayukti, analyzing commentaries, comparing Samhita concepts, and evaluating Panchakarma procedures in clinical settings. It also includes manuscript studies, case studies, flipped classroom discussions, and interviews with practitioners.
This educational strategy ensures that students develop robust interpretive skills and practical expertise while fostering a deeper appreciation for Ayurvedic wisdom.
